Volunteers Restore Popular Storyland Theme Park for New Orleans Kids
NEW ORLEANS - January 31, 2007 - TMP Worldwide, the world's largest independent recruitment advertising agency, took advantage of its annual sales and marketing meeting in New Orleans with a volunteer cleanup effort at New Orleans City Park. The TMP volunteer team worked to help restore famed Storyland, a fairytale theme park adjacent to City Park's Carousel Gardens and New Orleans Botanical Garden.
City Park-the largest recreation area for the entire metropolitan New Orleans area, hosting 11 million visitors each year.-suffered an estimated $43 million in damages from Hurricane Katrina when the park was under one to eight feet of water. While water has receded, much work still needs to be done to restore the park to its original condition.
"We made a conscious choice to hold our annual sales meeting in New Orleans to help the city rebound, and making a little extra effort to contribute to the ongoing restoration of New Orleans was an easy decision," stated Michelle Abbey, President and CEO of TMP Worldwide.
This volunteer effort is intended to reflect TMP's business ethic of "interactivity" with the people and communities in which they have a presence. "We want to see New Orleans reclaim its position as a world-class destination of culture and commerce, and I urge all companies with available resources to volunteer in some way. It's one of the best ways to show solidarity with New Orleans residents, who are working hard to rebuild after this unprecedented natural disaster," added Abbey.
